About the Tradescantia Nanouk
Tradescantia Nanouk (Tradescantia albiflora 'Nanouk') was developed through a controlled cross-pollination program in the Netherlands, selected for its robust, compact growth and vibrant coloring. Its thick, fleshy leaves display a painterly blend of green, white, pink, and purple stripes with bright pink undersides. Unlike many Tradescantia, Nanouk grows more compactly and has sturdier, less trailing stems. It produces small white and pink three-petaled flowers. The candy-like pastel palette combined with improved vigor over other Tradescantia varieties has made it one of the most popular and widely shared houseplants in recent years.
Origin: Cultivar
Care Tips
Provide bright indirect light to maintain the vivid pink and purple variegation; low light causes colors to fade to mostly green. Water when the top 2 cm of soil is dry; Nanouk holds more moisture in its thicker leaves than other Tradescantia, so avoid overwatering. Average household humidity is fine, though higher humidity promotes lusher growth. Feed monthly during the growing season with a balanced liquid fertilizer. Pinch growing tips to maintain a full, bushy shape and prevent legginess. Propagate very easily from stem cuttings -- snip below a node and root in water or moist soil within days.
