About the Parlor Palm
The Parlor Palm (Chamaedorea elegans) is native to the rainforest understory of southern Mexico and Guatemala, where it grows in shaded, humid conditions beneath taller trees. It features delicate, pinnate fronds on slender green stems, creating an elegant, feathery canopy. Typically reaching 60-120 cm indoors, it maintains a compact, clumping habit. First popularized as a houseplant in the Victorian era, it remains one of the most widely sold indoor palms due to its tolerance of low light, small spaces, and dry indoor air, and its status as one of the few pet-safe palms.

Care Tips
Prefers low to medium indirect light; direct sun scorches the delicate fronds. Water when the top 2-3 cm of soil is dry, keeping soil lightly moist but never soggy -- root rot is the most common issue. Tolerates average humidity but appreciates occasional misting. Brown leaf tips usually indicate dry air or fluoride sensitivity; use filtered water if possible. Feed monthly in spring and summer with a diluted palm fertilizer. This palm does not tolerate repotting well, so only repot when truly root-bound. Propagate by seed, as clumps cannot be easily divided.
