About the Nerve Plant
The Nerve Plant (Fittonia albivenis) is native to the tropical rainforests of Peru, Colombia, and other parts of South America, where it carpets the forest floor in dense, humid shade. Its small, oval leaves feature an intricate network of contrasting veins in white, pink, red, or silver against a dark green background, creating a mosaic-like pattern. The low, spreading growth habit stays under 15 cm tall, making it ideal for terrariums, dish gardens, and tabletop displays. Like the Peace Lily, Fittonia dramatically wilts flat when thirsty and springs back when watered -- a helpful but alarming visual cue.

Care Tips
Prefers low to medium indirect light; direct sun bleaches the delicate leaf coloring. High humidity is the most critical requirement -- this is a terrarium plant at heart and struggles in dry air. If leaf edges brown and crisp, or the plant frequently wilts, increase humidity with a terrarium, cloche, or humidifier. Keep soil consistently moist but not soggy; it wilts dramatically when dry but recovers quickly after watering. Feed monthly during the growing season with a very diluted liquid fertilizer. Pinch growing tips to encourage bushy, compact growth. Propagate easily by stem cuttings rooted in water or moist soil.
