Kalanchoe blossfeldiana is a flowering succulent native to Madagascar, where it grows on dry, rocky slopes and in open, sunny areas. It produces dense, rounded clusters of small, brightly colored flowers in red, pink, orange, yellow, and white that last for weeks. The thick, scallop-edged, dark green leaves are waxy and succulent, providing year-round foliage interest. It is one of the most popular flowering gift plants worldwide due to its long bloom period and ease of care. As a short-day plant, it naturally flowers in winter when day length decreases, though commercial growers manipulate light to produce blooms year-round.

Care Tips
Provide bright light with some direct sun for compact growth and best flowering. Plant in a well-draining succulent mix. Water thoroughly when the soil is completely dry; overwatering and soggy soil quickly cause root rot and mushy stems. To rebloom after the first flowering, provide 12-14 hours of complete darkness daily for 6 weeks (cover with a box or place in a dark closet each evening) to simulate short days and trigger bud formation. Feed monthly during the growing season with a balanced fertilizer. Deadhead spent flowers to encourage additional bloom cycles. Propagate from stem or leaf cuttings.
