About the Dieffenbachia
Dieffenbachia, commonly called Dumb Cane, is native to the tropical forests of Central and South America, particularly Brazil and the Caribbean. Named for its toxic sap that causes temporary speechlessness if ingested, it features large, oblong leaves adorned with splashes, spots, and blotches of cream, white, or yellow over green. Several popular cultivars exist, including 'Camille' with creamy-centered leaves and 'Tropic Snow' with bold white variegation. The plant grows upright on thick, cane-like stems, reaching 1-2 meters indoors. Its lush, tropical foliage and ease of care make it a classic choice for low-light spaces.

Care Tips
Grows well in low to medium indirect light; direct sun bleaches the variegation. Water when the top 2-3 cm of soil is dry, keeping soil moderately moist. Yellow lower leaves usually indicate overwatering or natural aging. Moderate humidity is preferred but not essential. Feed monthly during the growing season with a balanced liquid fertilizer. The sap contains calcium oxalate crystals that irritate skin and mucous membranes -- wear gloves when pruning and keep away from children and pets. Cut leggy plants back to encourage new growth from the base. Propagate from stem cuttings or cane sections.
