About the Snake Plant
The Snake Plant (Dracaena trifasciata, formerly Sansevieria) hails from the arid rocky habitats of West Africa, from Nigeria to the Congo. Its stiff, sword-shaped leaves grow vertically from underground rhizomes and feature distinctive dark green horizontal banding with lighter green or yellow margins. Plants can reach 120 cm tall indoors and spread slowly via rhizome offsets. Renowned as one of the most indestructible houseplants, it is also celebrated for its nighttime oxygen production via CAM photosynthesis, making it a popular bedroom plant.

Care Tips
Thrives in any light level from deep shade to full sun, though moderate indirect light produces the best growth. Water sparingly, allowing the soil to dry completely between waterings -- roughly every 2-3 weeks in summer and once a month in winter. Overwatering is the primary killer, causing mushy bases and root rot. Use a well-draining cactus or succulent mix. This plant tolerates dry air, drafts, and temperature fluctuations down to 10C. Propagate by dividing rhizome offsets or by rooting individual leaf cuttings in water or soil.
