About the Alocasia Polly
Alocasia Polly (Alocasia x amazonica 'Polly') is a compact hybrid cultivar, not actually from the Amazon despite its botanical name. It is believed to be a cross between species native to Southeast Asia. Its dramatic, arrow-shaped, dark green leaves feature bold, silvery-white veins and scalloped, ruffled edges, with deep purple undersides. The leaves are held on sturdy, upright petioles. Plants typically reach 30-60 cm, much more compact than many Alocasia species. Often called the African Mask Plant, its theatrical, almost artificial-looking foliage has made it an icon of the modern houseplant aesthetic.

Care Tips
Provide bright indirect light; direct sun scorches the dark leaves. Keep soil consistently moist but well-draining -- an aroid mix of peat, perlite, and orchid bark works well. Alocasia Polly grows from a rhizomatous corm and may go dormant in winter, losing leaves -- reduce watering and keep warm until new growth resumes. High humidity (above 60%) is important to prevent brown edges and spider mites. Feed every 2 weeks during the growing season with a balanced liquid fertilizer. Watch for spider mites, the most common pest. Propagate by dividing offsets from the mother corm during repotting.
