About the Alocasia Frydek
Alocasia Frydek (Alocasia micholitziana 'Frydek') is native to the tropical forests of the Philippines. It produces stunning, arrow-shaped, dark velvety green leaves with bold, crisp white veins creating a striking contrast. The soft, matte texture of the leaves is distinctly different from the glossy finish of other Alocasia species. Plants grow 60-90 cm tall with an upright, clumping habit. While sometimes confused with Alocasia Polly, Frydek is distinguished by its velvety leaf texture and pure white (rather than silvery) veins. It is gaining popularity as a premium collector's Alocasia for its refined, high-contrast appearance.

Care Tips
Provide bright indirect light; avoid direct sun which scorches the velvety leaves. Keep soil consistently moist but well-draining, using a chunky aroid mix. Like other Alocasias, it grows from a corm and may enter dormancy in winter, losing leaves -- this is normal. Reduce watering during dormancy and keep warm. High humidity above 60% is important to prevent crispy leaf edges and discourage spider mites. Feed every 2 weeks during active growth with a balanced liquid fertilizer. Spider mites are the most common pest, thriving in dry air. Propagate by separating offset corms during spring repotting.
