About the African Violet
The African Violet (Saintpaulia ionantha) is native to the cloud forests of the Usambara Mountains in Tanzania and Kenya, where it grows on mossy rocks and along stream banks in humid, shaded conditions. Compact rosettes of fuzzy, rounded leaves support clusters of velvety flowers in purple, blue, pink, white, red, and bicolor varieties, with single or double petal forms. Under ideal conditions, it can bloom continuously for months, making it one of the most reliable flowering houseplants. With thousands of registered cultivars, African Violet collecting is a popular hobby with dedicated societies worldwide.

Care Tips
Provide bright indirect light; east-facing windows are ideal. Insufficient light reduces flowering, while direct sun scorches the fuzzy leaves. Water from the bottom by placing the pot in a tray of room-temperature water for 20-30 minutes, as cold water on the leaves causes brown spots. Keep soil lightly moist but never soggy. Humidity of 40-60% is preferred. Feed every 2 weeks with a specialized African Violet fertilizer to promote blooming. Remove spent blooms and yellowed leaves at the base. Propagate easily by inserting a healthy leaf with its stem into moist soil or water.
