About the String of Bananas

String of Bananas (Senecio radicans, now Curio radicans) is a trailing succulent native to South Africa, where it scrambles along the ground in dry scrubland. Its curved, banana-shaped leaves grow along thin, cascading stems that can trail over a meter. Each leaf has a translucent window strip along one side -- similar to its relative String of Pearls -- allowing light to penetrate to the interior for efficient photosynthesis. It produces small, white, cinnamon-scented, puffball flowers in winter.
