About the Maidenhair Fern
The Maidenhair Fern (Adiantum raddianum) is native to the tropical forests of South America, where it thrives in the consistently humid, sheltered microclimate near waterfalls, stream banks, and cave entrances. Its delicate, fan-shaped leaflets (pinnae) are held on thin, wiry, black stems (stipes) that give an airy, ethereal appearance. The fronds form a soft, billowing mound of bright green foliage. The name Adiantum means 'unwetted,' referring to the leaflets' ability to shed water. Considered one of the most beautiful yet challenging ferns to grow indoors, it rewards dedicated growers with its graceful, lace-like beauty.

Care Tips
Requires low to medium indirect light; direct sun quickly scorches the delicate fronds. The critical need is consistent high humidity (60% or above) -- dry air causes rapid browning and leaf loss. Place in a bathroom, near a humidifier, or in a terrarium. Keep soil consistently moist but never waterlogged or bone dry; even brief drying can kill fronds. Use room-temperature filtered water. If the plant dries out and fronds die back, cut all stems to the base and keep moist -- new fronds often regenerate. Feed every 2-4 weeks with a very dilute liquid fertilizer. Propagate by division of the rhizome in spring.
