About the Dragon Tree
The Dragon Tree (Dracaena marginata) is native to Madagascar and Mauritius, where it grows in dry, semi-arid conditions on rocky, well-drained terrain. Its narrow, arching leaves are dark green with distinctive red or purple margins, crowning a slender, cane-like trunk that develops character with age. Older specimens branch naturally, creating a sculptural, palm-like silhouette. Indoors it can reach 2 meters or more while maintaining a narrow footprint. Its architectural form, low water needs, and tolerance of some neglect make it a reliable, space-efficient indoor tree.

Care Tips
Grows best in medium to bright indirect light, but adapts to lower light levels with slower growth. Allow the top half of the soil to dry out between waterings; the most common issue is overwatering, which causes yellow or brown leaf tips and root rot. This species is sensitive to fluoride in tap water -- use filtered, distilled, or rainwater to prevent brown leaf tips. Feed every 4-6 weeks during the growing season with a balanced liquid fertilizer. Tolerates dry air well. Remove lower leaves as they naturally yellow and drop. Propagate by cutting cane sections and rooting them upright in soil.
